During the 1980's Rosa Oviedo was a well-known player in the Dominican Republic, her native country. She won many National & International tournaments such as Rotative Regional Banco Antillano Copa, Bermudez Del Cibao, Coca Cola, Marlboro, Codetel, Milo and many more Copa's during her matches as a child. She was introduced to tennis at the age of 8 and won her first trophy in the category division of 10 and she never stopped since. Rosa grew up in an environment full of sports which gave her the opportunity to learn swimming, soccer, volleyball and tennis.
During this time, she became a phenomenal athlete and quickly gained captaincy for her teams. Rosa was part of the Club Falcondo team, Bonao, DR. Today Rosa has an impeccable record & trajectory in the world of tennis with more than 100 trophies including medals and a placard won in the Dominican Republic. She was frequently nominated as an athlete to do the sports oath. During the 80's Rosa was selected by the Dominican Federation of Tennis (FEDOTENIS) to represent the Dominican Republic in her category division; " XIV Juvenile tennis, Rexona, XIV Centro American International in Caracas, Venezuela, and also traveled to other countries such as Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico and the United States representing DR. During those tournaments she won singles and doubles.
Today, Rosa Oviedo is the President and a volunteer coach for the DTA. She is a USTA Certified & Safe Play coach. Rosa was also part of the Manhattan Youth after school program were she became head coach for the New York City Lab Middle School for Collaborative Studies in NYC in 2020. Today Rosa is doing her best to grow and fully sustain the DTA of NY. She is an excellent leader and compassionate friend.
